The European Water Pollution Control Network (EWPCN)
Internet exchange network about water pollution control launched on World Water Day 2001
On the occasion of the World Water Day of the United Nations on 22 March,
the European Water Association (EWA) introduced the European Water Pollution
Control Network (EWPCN), a unique information and exchange pool for experts in the
field of water protection.
When dealing with questions of water protection, experts often encounter the situation that more and more valuable information in this field is available on the internet, but usually very scattered. The EWPCN pools the information that is relevant in the specific sector of water pollution control. This comprises EU directives and working documents, newsletters, project reports, and other background material. The information is available as references or downloadable documents and is structured into categories of: policy & legislation, load quantity & quality, processes, technology, management, and training & education. The network also gives information about meetings and conferences related to water issues.
The initiative is based on the internet platform "EnviroWindows", provided by the
European Environment Agency in Copenhagen (EEA).
The EWPCN lives from the contribution of its members. At the moment the members are:
the European Water Association, EUROSTAT, the European Commission (DG Environment,
DG Research, Joint Research Center), the Word Health Organisation (European Centre for
Environment and Health), and the International Water Association. The EWPCN is also
directly linked to the global network Sanitation Connection.
Information from this site can be obtained free of charge for environmental
authorities, water companies, consultants, researchers, NGOs, and other organisations
and persons with a specific interest in this field. All interested organisations and
persons are invited to benefit from the outcome of this network and contribute to it.
